DR Congo’s hopes of advancing from Group K suffered a setback after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, but much of the spotlight fell on the long-awaited tournament debut of the country’s most famous supporter, Lumumba Vea.

Colombia booked their place in the Round of 32 thanks to a decisive goal from Daniel MuƱoz, whose deflected strike in the 76th minute finally broke the deadlock in a tightly contested encounter.

The victory moved Colombia to the top of Group K with six points from two matches, while DR Congo slipped to third place with just one point. Despite the defeat, Leopards goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi delivered an impressive performance, making eight crucial saves to keep his side in the contest.

Away from the action on the pitch, DR Congo fans celebrated the arrival of 49-year-old superfan Lumumba Vea, a beloved figure known worldwide for his trademark red blazer and iconic motionless pose during matches.

Vea had missed DR Congo’s opening game after encountering quarantine and visa-related issues that delayed his arrival at the tournament.
His absence sparked widespread discussion among supporters, with reports suggesting fans even appealed to the country’s leadership to help facilitate his journey.

The popular supporter finally took his place in the stands against Colombia and remained perfectly still throughout the match, maintaining the pose that has made him a viral sensation among football fans across the globe.

Meanwhile, the Group K standings took another twist after Uzbekistan suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Portugal, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table.

With one group-stage match remaining, DR Congo will need a positive result in their final fixture to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 32 alive.
