Senegal the Lions of Teranga, paraded their African cup of Nations before their match against Peru despite being stripped of the title by CAF.
Senegal defeated Morocco on January 18th .2026 in the African cups of Nations final which ended in chaotic scenes when Senegal players walked off the pitch after their opponents were awarded a stoppage time penalty and lost.
CAF declared Morocco as the winners 2 months later. Senegal have appealed with the court of Arbitration for sport.
The Senegal head coach, Pape Thiaw, said there was no doubt his side were African champions despite having the title taken away and that tournaments should be won on the pitch. In a first comment since the Confederation of African Football’s appeal board awarded Morocco the Africa Cup of Nations title, Thiaw said on Friday: “We know we’re African champions.”
