His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit today joined mourners at All Saints Cathedral in Juba for the requiem mass of the late Bishop Nathaniel Garang Anyieth [1940-2026], honouring him as a revered spiritual leader, mentor, and devoted servant of the nation.
In his condolence message, H.E. the President described Bishop Nathaniel as a man of deep faith who dedicated his life to guiding the people through the Word of God, while also serving as a trusted confidant and source of counsel to many. He noted that the Bishop’s enduring friendships, humility, and commitment to service left a lasting impact across generations.
H.E. President Kiir commended the late Bishop for his role during the liberation struggle, highlighting his spiritual leadership and his firm stance in defending the rights of Christians and marginalised communities.
“He evangelised with vigour and stood up for the marginalised people, continuously giving them a voice throughout his service as a servant of God,” the President said.
Describing his passing as a great loss to the Church, his family, and the entire nation, the President emphasised that Bishop Nathaniel’s legacy of faith, service, and unity will continue to inspire the people of South Sudan.
The day concluded by offering prayers for the eternal peace of the late Bishop.
May His soul rest in eternal peace.
