The Central Equatoria State Government has expressed concern over increasing cases of robbery in Juba City.
This follows the 8th Ordinary Security Meeting held on 24 March 2026 at the State Secretariat in Juba.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Governor Paulino Lokudu Obede, who received a detailed security report from state security agencies. The report highlighted a surge in street robberies, particularly along the road to Juba International Airport.
According to the security committee, a new network of criminal gangs has emerged in Juba. The gangs reportedly use motorbikes and impersonate security personnel, setting up fake checkpoints at night to rob motorists and civilians. Among the victims is an advisor in the State Ministry of Gender.
Speaking after the meeting, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Leion Abe, urged security organs to take immediate action against the criminal groups threatening public safety.
The meeting also raised concerns over a reported outbreak of the Mpox virus in neighboring Western Equatoria State, calling on the national Ministry of Health to strengthen prevention and response measures.
In addition, the committee appealed to the national Ministry of Interior to establish a town hall system to improve coordination and cooperation among security agencies.
Authorities in Central Equatoria State have pledged to intensify security operations and enhance coordination to curb rising crime and protect citizens, while also remaining vigilant against emerging public health threats.
