Central Equatoria Governor Meets National Minister to Boost Livestock and Fisheries Sector
The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has met with the National Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec, to discuss strategies aimed at transforming the livestock and fisheries sector to drive economic growth in South Sudan.
The meeting, held on 23rd March 2026 at the Governor’s office in Juba, focused on key development plans for both Central Equatoria State and the country at large. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Governor Emmanuel Adil highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving livestock production and fisheries management.
He called on the national ministry to support efforts in organizing and strengthening livestock and fisheries businesses, particularly cattle farming and meat export to international markets. The Governor also revealed plans to establish fish storage facilities and processing factories to boost exports locally and globally.
He added that youth, women, and men—especially in Terekeka County will be organized into cooperative societies to actively participate in the sector. Addressing climate change challenges, the Governor noted that changing weather patterns are affecting livestock, prompting plans to construct water reserves in northern and western parts of Terekeka to control animal movement and improve sustainability.
On his part, Minister Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec said his visit was also to congratulate the Governor on his reappointment. He emphasized the need for establishing modern slaughterhouses and fish processing facilities to commercialize livestock and fisheries in South Sudan.
The Minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting the establishment of auction centers and a northern slaughterhouse to attract investors. He further requested the state government to allocate land for the construction of these facilities. He also stressed the importance of improving transportation systems to enhance trade and boost the national economy.
Both leaders expressed optimism that strengthened collaboration between the national and state governments will unlock the full potential of the livestock and fisheries sector, contributing significantly to economic growth and livelihoods in South Sudan.
