Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has taken quick response in inspecting Custom Market after yesterday’s fire outbreak, destroying shops in parts of the market. During the visit, the Governor was joined by the National Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang, State Minister of Caninet Affairs Hon. Lupai Satimon,  State Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Stephen Lado Onesimo, Mayor of Juba City Council H.W. Christopher Sarafino Wani among other officials.

Following the inspection, Governor Adil urged traders to consider long-term solutions plan to avoid similar incident in future, including permanent constructions of shops and reorganization of markets. He expressed his sympathy and solidarity with traders affected by the fire outbreak, while applauding the security apparatus, for their continued efforts in ensuring the markets are organized.

The Governor emphasized on forming a probe committee to investigate the cause of the fire incident, and assess damages within the market.

On the reorganization of the markets, both the Governor and the National Minister of Trade and Industry urged the public to

cooperate with leadership of Juba City Council during the period of clearing street vendors. The leaders stressed that the clearing up of street vendors aims to provide clear passages, decongest streets, and provide safety of both vendors and pedestrians along streets of the markets.

Governor Emmanuel urged the street vendors to remain calm as the Mayor is directed to meet with the street vendors on reaching common ground, and designate new market locations within the City.

In related development, the Governor and the accompanying delegation, inspected Konyo-Konyo market, which is operating normally after clearing road vendors.

The leadership assures the public that the security situation remains normal and

calls for calm as the Juba city Council continues with normal routine of organizing the markets to meet the world’s cities standards.
